Twenty-seven starters came to the line for Mengeham Rythe Sailing Club’s annual 'Winkle of the Harbour' open event held in aid of the RNLI.

The race was held in a biting 12 knot North-Easterly wind and sailed over three rounds of a triangular Olympic course in Chichester Harbour and in spite of a strong flooding tide the fleet got away sat the first attempt.

Neil Upton-Brown sailing a Musto Skiff gained a significant lead over the first triangle, and although Keith Walker in his Fireball clawed some of it back he had to accept second place overall ahead of a closely bunched group of Flying Fifteens, 470 and Finns, with the slower boats being disadvantaged by the new ebb tide over their last round.

Overall Results:

1st Neil Upton-Brown (Musto Skiff) HISC
2nd Keith Walker & John Rees (Fireball) HISC
3rd Russell Peters & Greg Wells (Flying Fifteen) HISC
1st MRSC boat, John Tremlett (Finn)
1st slow handicap boat, Nick Rawlings (Solo) HISC
1st Junior, Anthony Parke (Laser 4.7) MRSC
