Laser Radial/4.7 & Solo Open at Mengeham Rythe Sailing Club
By Carol Carter on 31 Aug 200923 August 2009
Twenty seven Solos and nine Lasers competed in the Mengeham Open meeting on Sunday August 23rd. Courses were set over Pilsey Sands in Chichester Harbour in a light 6 knot southerly wind which strengthened until racing had finished. It was perhaps frustrating for the heavyweights but it made for very close racing.
In the Solo fleet David Sayce (HISC) took the first race from David Goodman (Kingsmead) and Vanda Jowett (Littleton). The second race saw a completely different set of leaders – Nick Rawlings (HISC), Andrew Vosey (HISC) and Mike Ball (Papercourt) making for an interest finale raced on the newly ebbing tide. Melvyn Cooper (HISC) provided yet another winner from David Goodman, who thereby sealed his series win, and Stephen Waite (Highcliffe).
By contrast the Lasers were settled after the first two races with James Price and Anthony Parke (both MRSC) each taking firsts in the first two races for Radials and 4.7 respectively. James Hall (Spinnaker) and Duncan Hampshire (Papercourt) each made sure of second place with firsts in the last race.
