Junior Camel Week at Rock Sailing & Water Ski Club this year was a notable success with 50 boats and sailors with ages ranging from 8 to 18 with a wide range of experience, and a variety of boats enjoying a great week of sailing and socialising.
The programme had six races, each with two starts: recognising the skill levels of the participants the organisers divided the fleet into those new to sail racing and the more experienced. At the end of the week, Race Officer Dave Parr reported that he had an ‘easy ride’ with well behaved competitors and weather conditions that all could cope with.
The social programme ensured that when the tide was out, the fleet had a great time ashore with a barbecue and disco, beach games and the prizegiving dinner.
Altogether this was one of the most successful Junior weeks in recent years and it was good to see several members of CEYS (Camel Estuary Youth Sailing) taking part after the recently reported vandalism on their boats, thanks to the support they received.
Junior Camel Week was sponsored by John Bray Cornish Holidays and Ann’s Cottage.
