Comet Trio Inlands at Llangorse Sailing Club

by Lin Abbott 15 May 2007 07:47 BST 6-7 May 2007

Boats arriving early at Llangors were welcomed with brilliant warm sunshine and still air with only one trio John and Nicky exploring the flat lake. The following day boats launched in the promised strong winds and racing began in earnest.

The first race found a confident start from Exe boats Guy Farrant in Go with the flow, Symon Garrett in Abigail Rose and Mike Sydenham inTigger fighting it out at the front but Bob Presley in Contagious managed to split them and finish third. The cup holders Andrew and Caroline McAausland welcomed all other sailors ashore not due to great sailing this time but with a lost halyard. They came out fighting in the next two races taking a first and second. New sails for the local boats proved useful to David Morgan in Shoemaker in the second and third races where he won a second and first place and visitors had to concentrate to keep in touch.

An opportunity to overtake the leading eight boats heading towards the wrong buoy was passed by the second half of the fleet so the leaders were left unchallenged in race three.

Monday’s racing began in strong winds that continued to build and the sudden shifting gusts caught many boats out. John Best in Spook came into his own, his caution with the spinnaker paying off as several boats were flattened in front of him and he gained a third place.

A great weekend. Five races, five excellent different courses by race officer Edward Ramsden kept all boats alert.
