6-9 April 2007
There was an excellent turnout of 29 boats for Rock Sailing & Water Ski Club’s Easter Chase. Sunshine and cloudless skies greeted the competitors – but no wind! However, Race Officer Bernard Kain and his team were able to set a course on the evening of Good Friday and those who were able to get round had a close race of it. Mark and Nicky Rushton in their Laser5000 were first over the line but second on handicap to Alan Davies and Toby Barsley Dale in their B14. Third were Becky Priest and Tim Saunders in their Fireball , The New Bossy
Similar conditions, but even lighter winds happened on Day 2, with some boats unable even to cross the start line. There were enough who did however, to make a race of it and the winner was Ian Campbell in his Solo, with Becky Creak in her Challenger in second place. and in third place Roger Deane and Jenni Deane in their Albacore, Vivacious Lady.
Easter Sunday saw the fleet out in the bay at the mouth of the Camel Estuary where there was distinctly more wind. Bernard Kain set an Olympic triangle/sausage course that suited the winners John and Dave Wade and Becky Priest with Tim Saunders who were first and second in their Fireballs respectively and the B14 crew who were third.
The Bank Holiday provided the best day’s sailing with a modest but very welcome Force 2/3 allowing some ‘proper’ racing for the fleet. The eventual winner of Race 4 was the B14 crew with Mark and Rory Dinwoodie in their Mirror Nauti-Nic in second place and Ian Campbell third.
This was a difficult series for the race Officer and Bernard Kainand his team are to be congratulated on managing to keep the racing on track Overall winners were Alan Davies and Toby Barsley Dale in the B14; in second place was Ian Campbell in the Solo and third were Becky Priest and Tim Saunders in their Fireball.
