Now let me guess that wouldn’t be Ballyholme by any chance would it English David? “The sun always shines on the righteous” or should that be “The sun shines on those always right”

Only one draw back Doug it isn’t in England but apparently they are not too keen on Byte C11’s so it can’t be as bad as all that.

We've had sunshine in the Scottish Borders today (I only notice when the weather is nicer up here than in the south - so not that often!)

Also the wind looks good for racing this weekend!  We tend to have longer sailing seasons in the north - probably because we are so used to the cold.

When it rains tomorrow I will be feeling depressed too.

Eh?

The thing about living up north is that you never have to worry about what to wear on the water. Drysuit at all times (although that's a different thread)! It also stays light later as we are further west but you are still derigging in the fading light. Damn those Laser sailors with their 5 minute deriggable boats (and they hog the showers cos theyy've gone out in hikers and rash vest and wonder why they are cold).

Currently it's trying to snow. Looks like it will top 20kts on Sunday so am e-mailing round the cat fleet to see if sailing is worthwhile. I may go out even if racing is cancelled cos I have a new video system for boat. Waterproof bullet camera linked to a mini hard-disk recorder in waterproof box (peli-case). Enough cable to reach top of mast but I'll just put it on spinni pole this week.

No such thing as bad weather. Just the wrong sort of clothes.

Snow rarely settles on the water! So as long as you don't return to shore you'll be OK. I'm just grateful that the wind has eased!

(Why oh why does my boat cover always rip in the storms but never enough to be worth an insurance claim?)

Winter is crap cos the public transport system just shuts down, meant that i was late for work this morning, as trains were delayed and tubes had severe delays.

Only good thing is so far (fingers crossed) no races have been cancelled due to weather in the frostbite series i'm doing.

Keep send those pictures of snow... we have to go to the mall to see snow here in sunny and  (more often than before) windy Dubai.

OK the snow IS made fresh each night but looks good.

Great to see people all togged up and playing in the snow, when you are wearing shorts!

and then .. you just ... pop outside ... and in a couple of km's you go sailing in "warm" water.

Mind you, the Tall buildings do make the "local" wind more interesting (and occasionally) boring :-)

Now, why do big boat racers send their teams here for winter training? They do look great though. You can actually see quite some good views from the shore too - now that is good for sailing spectators!

Got to work today (school in NW London) to find it still open. They have just closed after 2 hours of "lessons".

Shame they didn't close it at 7.30 when I started!

Oh well can go home shortly.

I would just like to lodge a formal complaint about the wind here in Sussex (particularly WWSC) on Sunday 11th March in the morning.  The gusts were absolutely hideous and from any direction across an arc of 120 degrees. I stood absolutely no chance when single handing my Osprey and got very wet and hot indeed.  What's the point in trying to enjoy yourself if the weather is going to do that sort of thing?  The Met Office should be hauled over the coals for this sort of shoddy weather delivery.  Thank you for your patience.  Normal service will now be resumed.

And I would like to back up Pierrre's complaint with a grudge of my own: how do you expect me to do some constructive work when the weather is so nice outside? I have spent my entire morning washing, servicing and oiling our bikes, then repaired some old inner tubes and I'm currently looking for another excuse to stay outside.

It's simply not fair, that's all!

Here's a pic taken in my garden 10 minutes ago, just for Blobby.

I would like to lodge a complaint about the wind being perfect for sailing the Blaze on Sunday the 11th March but I had family duties to attend to in the morning and was PRO in the afternoon so could not sail.

PS Nice pic BnS

What sanding your foils is homework or sanding them is an excuse to not do your homework?

I did do my homework! Or some of it. It was not an excuse really, I was a good girl and set myself a time to stop at.

Perfect conditions on Sunday for sailing International 14s.  It must have been 16 mph from the south all day.  Few gusts and the boat was powered up all the time, upwind and down we never came off a full blooded plane - well except when we were swiming - of course.

Is it totaly mad to not even wear a wetsuit at the end of Feb??? I have refused to were a wetsuit when sailing and am currently sailing in my hiker shorts and rash vest. Its not to cold. I hate wearing a drysuit it is so restricting yet at least it lets you sail throughout the months there is snow on the ground - i.e. 1 week.

Yes totally mad.  What's the water temperature, 8 or 10 degrees?  Without a wetsuit you'll only have a 2 or 3 minutes in the water before your strength has gone and you won't be able to get out without help.  That's too risky.

I like the idea of being self sufficient, being able to survive whatever is thrown at me.  That's why I like to sail in strong winds and wild places.  If I'm going to do that I have to be prepared for the conditions.

Know someone who wore hikers out a few months back and ended up with hypothermia and spending the night in A+E.... As Redback says, the water is about as cold as it gets just now through to April as the sea temp is a 2-3 months behind the air temp, ie in the water it's still December/January time. I caught hypothermia in April 2001 wearing a 3/5mm wetsuit, so even although it feels warmish onshore, it can be deceptively cold on the water.

The Crew (In the water of course! ) Says:
"But of course"

He also says that his feet were just about touching the bottom there ( when he stands up straight ) but he was trying to pose as well!!

Yes, also, that helm spends a lot of time on the centerboard, so he takes time to practice his "moves"
