don't start....nearly brought that make up in the best sailor in the world ever thread but thought better of it.
Alstorer.....fair play, I think that the cheeky smiley kind of gave it away that I wasn't serious, but then again no one owns the principlalities you mentioned, whereas it is clear that Wales is owned by our Queen, and she is German. So could we all sail with GER on our sails? |

Interestingly Ellen McArthur when she sailed Kingfisher during the Vendee Globe had the sail number EUR888 no one noticed that during the race? The J/80 class has a couple of French teams and a Polish team who've had to change letters for the worlds to GBR this year to comply with ISAF...however I personally think you should have what you want

It is always possible to apply to represent an ISAF MNA that is not your country of citizenship, although one has to have some link, usually residence. This ruse has been used to gain entry to major events that have a limit on the number of entries per country.
In Ireland's case - the sailors qualified for the Men's Laser and the 49er at the Olympics are from the North, but chose to sail for Ireland. |

This is nothing to do with someone trying to do a dodgey nationality change just someone trying to enter an event who dosn't feel right using their birth nation.
Details:
Born: NED
Lived in CAN for 18 years and is in the process of applying for citizenship
Currently resident in ITA for work reasons ...
What sail letters do they use?

The one you feel most comfortable representing, I guess?
Was it Mitch Booth who turned Dutch? |

As has been said, if you enter as a member of a Canadian club or the Canadian national association you race with CAN on your sails. Assuming it doesn't invalidate you due to other requirements.
The Mitch Booth case was different because he was aiming for the Olympics. I believe there was some bad blood the other year when someone qualified for the Laser worlds as part of the Australian allocation but raced as GBR. |
