Hi,
I need to screw a few s/s screws into aluminium fittings. Its only about 10 screws in total (mast foot and jib tracks), so don't really want to splash out £15 for some Durulac or Tef Gel. Can I just wrap the screws in ptfe tape, or are there are any other cheap ways of avoiding corrosion? |

Loctite (nut lock grade) or epoxy can work.
Filling the joint will grease, preferably copper grease can work too, but it tends to creep out in hot weather and make a mess. Anything to keep to the water and limit metal-metal contact helps. Even a bit of wax, oil or WD40. A tube of Duralac lasts a long time, a smear of it can usually be scrounged. It works better than most things! |
