The 600 is only a pig downwind in the light (when there isnt enough wind to push the boom out). This is because the kicker pulls the boom into the centre line as you need it slightly tight when the main is right up to be able to grind on enough in the windy stuff. Also you need to sit right forward to get the transom out, by right forward i mean on the foredeck, this is less than ideal for holding the boom out. However once you get into position the boat is reasonably stable  especially if you manage to hold the boom out (it's all relative, the 600 is not particularly stable, but compared to it sitting stationary on the slipway it is stable).

The rest of the time the boat is a dream, upwind its so nicely balanced and so quick, leaving just about everything apart from canoes and 49ers behind (even 700s ), and as it gets windier it just goes faster and faster. Also you have the option of the baby rig for learning/strong winds, although most of the UK circuit only use the baby rig when it gets "proper windy" as if you can keep the thing just about going upwind then the pay off with the big rig on a reach is too much not to have. It is a beautiful boat to look at as well.

You will have to excuse the bias.

600 732, will call it Sticks and Stones when i get round to it.

Never been taken by a 600 on a beat yet! They are just a bit jealous......

But seriously, the 700 is easier than a 600...

at 95 kgs i would have a go in  vareo you would steam upwind at that weight just a bit quicker than a laser upwind but downwind its just the greatest ride you could have without being on the wire .

rs do have test boats that you can try out why not try before you buy you have nothiung to lose
