They're still on Exmoor. Things happen a little slower down here.

Perhaps it's just a myth after all!

Haven't seen the results posted anywhere, even on the sailing club website. However, I can reveal that Richard Cain from Starcross won in a 400 (by quite a margin) and won the South West Series overall. I was 2nd in a 300, 3rd was Terry Curtis in an Osprey and 4th was Ben Hawkes in a Laser Radial. I think a Supernova was 5th. Sorry, that's all I can remember, and I can't remember the crews' names either. :-(

There are the results for the top 10 anyway, as the report rightly said most of us were marooned up at the north end of the lake by the bridge when the finish was signaled. Still we had 5 D-Ones there which was great and I certainly enjoyed the event, better than last year! |

We did all 3 of the 'SW Series' in the Icon. All 3 were great events in really friendly clubs. Would definitely do it again, but I guess it won't happen next year as the Starcross Steamer is going back to January :-(
As a series it worked well. It fitted after the sailjuice series, and suited us as we used it as an excuse to catch up with various friends in the SW, and managed to leave the boat down there between R1 & R2 which helped. What was a bit disappointing is the apparent lack of 'formal' co-ordination between the three. Results are on the relevant websites for Roadford & Starcross, but the Beastie is being elusive. Equally, we've no idea how we did in the series, other than we weren't first or last! Sailracer promoted the Roadford Rocket - this was how we heard about it, and hence decided to do the series. From a competitor's perspective it would be nice to have a central place to find out info / results etc, so it would be good if they could replicate what they do with the Sailjuice series. I assume Sailracer take a cut of the entry fees, so given that the Steamer & Beastie get a good number of entries anyway, there's probably no incentive for these clubs to sign up to such a thing. However, I think these days it's reasonable to expect to be able to find results for a race or a series on t'interweb within a day or so of the event.

There is a link to a pdf of the overall
www.roadfordlakesailingclub.org.uk/Open%20Racing%20Files/2015%20Results/SW+Series+Overall+Results%202015.pdf Y&Y Report of the series http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/news/181954/Rooster-South-West-Challenge-Series-concludes Seems they eliminated boats from the overall as the series went on so if like me you missed the Steamer then they didn't bother looking for you in the Beastie results. I agree a good idea for a series although the Steamer is in Jan 2016 I believe it will still be part of the 3 race series. Beastie results are always a problem, if you don't look on the day then there is little chance of them being published in full anywhere. Sailracer involvement is good and I'm sure would be welcome for all events, but I really don't know how the costs of such work out. More importantly the series has a sponsor and I believe the clubs have an obligation to publicise this or it just will not happen again, so everybody should note the series was sponsored by http://www.roostersailing.com Edited by Roger - 28 Mar 15 at 12:26pm |
