Does anyone know where we can buy one of those devices which fires a banger into the air - it goes off with a one or two second delay. I have seen them in used at Hamble & they seem to be the answer to a maiden's prayer (or at least a race-officer's prayer) for getting everyone's attention on the start line.
Would we need a firearms licence? |

Years ago we had a "cannon" that used blank 12 bore cartridges. However, the regulation and inspections, keeping it all locked up etc ended up being too much hassle to be worth it. We now have a heavy duty car horn, which is OK except for strong onshore winds and very long start lines.

I have been contacted by Tony Lovell of Total Race Control who sells the "Stakkato Signal Launcher" which is what I was thinking about
