Surely Prince Charles receives no tax money, and if the bride to be's parents are paying, they are very rich and already pay lots of tax. I can't see how this event will cost us tax payers anything, anyway?
In fact, a nice big wedding with lots of money spent on it is a great way of redistributing wealth, isn't it? |

realised we have an issue in 2013, there'll be no royal wedding or mega sports competition to help lift the Brits.... personally, right now, right here, I'm offering to marry a willing (and preferably attractive) princess, particularly that nice looking one from Monaco (is it?) and live in a castle or two = will defo arrange the date for July 2013, so you don't need to pull a Friday off work to get a 3-day sailing weekend in, perhaps I'll time it for the nationals...
now, Princesses.. one at a time, PM please... |

UK is factually accurate. Merely disagreeing with the concept of Kingdom doesn't magically turn it into a republic. But I object to being classed as officially inferior (as are you) to William merely because I was not conceived by sperm from Prince Charles, who is considered superior (in what passes for a cobbled together constitution here) to you or I because he was conceived in the Queen's reproductive passages. This is apparently what makes him worthy of a wedding in one of the biggest venues in the land (whichever is chosen) at our expense (especially the policing operation). Nothing else. Just lucky sperm. |

So what is more expensive and open to abuse as a head of state? An unelected Monarchy with little or no real power or a frequently elected president who thinks they are the ultimate power.

Or (option C) a figurehead president with little or no real power like many European countries, with the power remaining in the hands of parliament as it does now? A republic doesn't have to mean having an executive president in the manner of the US or France.

Then you just get the next one in doing the same stuff.
Does anyone know how much it costs to run an election and have a president compared to funding a figurehead? My guess is far more, but I really don't know.
Of course, if you are a republican, the cost won't matter compared to the idology, will it? Just raise taxes, and send the army in if people complain.
