so now that 3d camcorders are available for considerably less than their commercial cousins (£1300ish compared to £20000) do you think that sailing could be bought to a wider audience? 3d porn here we come…..

Oh no! I suppose it is just a matter of time before it comes affordable. Personally I can't stand 3D. Everything on TV looks like it has three dimensions anyway doesn't it?

You forgot my favoured option. Go to the event and watch it from a boat. Personally 2d, hd, 3d makes no difference to me. All the tech talk of best boat, super camera angles just leaves me cold. Much more important to have close races, that happen on schedule between well defined characters. Add a bit of controversy a la Formula 1 rule bending and team orders and jobs a good un.

out of interest what 3d systems have you viewed? there are big differences between a good one with active glasses that have no cross talk and show full hd images, and passive glasses which dont show full hd images and suffer badly from cross talk.
didnt forget, not everyone can go watch it live. im just interesting in it from a technological point of view, although the human aspect is very important like you say. |

dropped in at john lewis today to check out 3d tv's. I honestly thought i was going to puke watching an american footbal match! maybe it's me but that was one stomach churning experience! the motion is so unusual it takes your brain by suprise and you get a kind of sensory overload which made me feel sick. never been seasick, never been travel sick but id could easily honk watching a telly. Go figure!!! |

I have no idea but it never looks any more 3D than normal to me, everything just looks blue and red with two images rather than one! Also with my normal TV things look 3D anyway, it's not like they are flat 2D cartoons anyway. Say if I'm watching Top Gear, the cars look real and look like they have three dimensions. It's all just a big gimmick really and I'm sure it will pass away soon hopefully. |

Blue and red? Tiom, you've not actually seen the current 3D tech, have you? No blue and red any more. The images genuinely appear to come OUT of the screen.

You still have to wear blue and red glasses though? Anyway is it only me that thinks objects on TV look 3D anyway? |

They're not red and blue. You do have to wear specs, but the technology is somewhat more advanced. This is the main technology used.
It really does look rather better than old style red/blue (or red/green) 3D. |
