Hi People

at the sailing school where i work were looking into purchasing some new singlehanders,

currently we have

  • Toppers ( 6 )
  • Oppies ( 6 )
  • Laser/radial ( 2 )

now were looking for something to fill the gap between toppers and lasers. as the lasers we have had just about had it,

the main criteria for the new boats would be hard wearing,  so preferably plastic,

nothing that requires too much experience,

any help would be appriciated

I'd have to say from experience go for Pico's:

  • Big, can esilly fit teacher plus two kiddies in
  • Plastic, tough and long lasting
  • Cheap, I'm pretty sure laser do discounts for schools/bulk buys
  • Simple to sail, works well as the first boat people jump into (also, designed to be reefed)
  • Versatile, can be rigged with either rear or centre main (smack between topper and laser)

Sailing school at the marina I sail at had (maybe still have actually) picos but they seem to favour the Topaz these days.  Enjoyed the Pico when I was learning.
