Most people have already reached a point of incredulity which they did not previously know existed, when following the latest Cup news.

I have not seen behaviour like this since I was 6 and I used to pick out the best toys in the Argos catalog, saying that my brother was not allowed any of them.

Before we all roll our eyes and turn away from what ought to be our finest sporting tradition, let's see if we can predict what happens next, just to deaden our senses in readiness for the next part of the farce.

We hereby predict the next move by SNG will be to...

Amend the rules such that total combined length of all hulls is measured thereby making a tri fall outside the rules

Maybe, but US cheese is bland, tasteless, rubbery and would melt in the sun.

the next move will be to outlaw carbon fibre and insist that all boats are built from wood grown within 10 miles of the build site, and the trees have to be brought in using elephants bred in the country of challenge, and only cut up using hand tools. These rules only apply to challengers.

That happened yesterday. The bottom flap was removed for repair this morning.

I predict that SNG will race on 8th and 10th Feb as the wind is forecast at 7 - 8 knots and lose both races.

The NY Court has basically said "go racing", and will hear the various claims and counterclaims after the racing has finished. In response, those great sportspeople at GGYC have said:

Statement by Tom Ehman, GGYC spokesperson
New York (January 29, 2010) – The New York Supreme Court said today that,
due to its busy schedule, the hearing on the “constructed-in-country” issue could
not be expedited. Therefore, it appears unlikely that a hearing will take place
before the America’s Cup match begins on February 8th.
It is unfortunate that the legality of Alinghi’s American-made sails probably will
not be decided before the Match. However, it will be decided eventually.

So the next event in this farce is the teams will be going racing, and the result will be more than likely be decided afterwards in Court. Farce doesn't even begin to cover this utter shambles.
