probably an over asked question but i can't find the topic anywhere
![]() I'm 65 kg, am nearly 17yrs old and have been racing the 29er as a helm (sometimes dabling as a crew) at high level for 3 years (just did the worlds). I have also sailed other boats on occassion (29erxx rs 600) but im soon to make the big leap and i would like to know which boat would be most suitable (im a mental speed freak who loves waves btw ![]() |

hey I've sailed the 29er singlehanded quite a lot, and when the crew on the XX decided he was bored of hanging off a wire i sailed that singlehanded

Musto Skiff is the best. But most expensive. If the money
was there i would choose this over any of them. 600 is 2nd i reckon and at the prices you can pick them up at the moment they are by far the best value for money. Even though downwind sailing without a kite is rubbish unless its windy. 700 i think is the worst of the 3. From what ive heard from people who've had/sailed them they aren't very good. They have a ridiculous handicap too. If i had the money to buy a Musto Skiff then that would definately be what i would buy. If i didnt have that much to spend i would rather spend something like £3000 on a newer and top condition 600 than spend the same on an old probably not so good condition 700. This is what i decided when i was looking for a new boat recently and im so glad i went for a young and very good condition 600. Edited by s.a.l.t.y |

The topic has been raised and discussed at length on here previously but the short answer is - if you intend to sail mainly windward/leeward courses then get either a Musto or RS700 (see past threads entitled Musto vs RS700 for arguments for and against each - please nobody open that can of worms again!); or if it's round the cans then an RS600 would be the one to go for. Add salty's cost argument to the equation and you should be somewhere near the answer. |

Oh why not, I was looking forward to seeing the same old arguments trotted out again. I've even got the popcorn on and have pulled up a chair next to G.R.F. |

Yes come on, lots of us newbies haven't heard the argument. I've often
wondered why the 700 isn't as popular as the MPS even though very very few folk can ever say they've mastered an MPS in all conditions and I've heard the 700 is easier to sail. Why is the 700 listed as faster when evidence seems to suggest it isn't. Was it the result of a better marketing war waged by the MPS'ers who I must admit do a superb job and they are keen and eager to help would be riders even though for some of us it's a hopeless cause. It's a shame the boat is so difficult to master, because the class must rate as one that would be easy to crack from a winning a championship point of view, dominated as it is by one bod.
