Thanks for your replies,

I suppose it makes sense that London clubs may benefit from a stand. Some of our members do come from Croydon, London and kent, they have caravans in an adjacent park, Not sure I'd want to travel that far though. So I guess clubs need to target locals say within a 30mile radius . The cost of a stand would probably cover the cost of some good adverts in the local press for quite a period...and a website would be my first port of call if I was changing clubs.

I have visited some fantastic clubs but non have the beach and facilities that we have so I guess thats the selling point...... and people won't appreciate that unless they see it, so pushing and promoting a big handicap open event may be the way to go.

Great thanks Guys and Gals any other thoughts??

Sorry Rick, I deliberately haven't posted my club, I didn't want to appear to be using this thread as a covert advert.

Our club used to display there religiously, in fact many's the local guy
down here who would never have married were it not for an influx of fine
sailing womenfolk courtesy of the Dinghy Show.

Even as far back as the Pickets Lock days, then through Crystal Palace, but
as the Assymetric trend fractured the fleet, and the Scorpions and 505's
became fewer and farer between and the Iso's 4000's and whatever else
came along failed to gel, the club went into terminal decline and didn't
continue showing there.

Time was, the dinghy show was exactly about clubs and classes, with
members frequently migrating, Open Meeting calendars settled, new
sailors choosing venues, so what am I rambling on about?

Yes, In theory it should still be a valuable promotional exercise going
there as a club, if you can get in, the commercial side having outgrown
the space available.

Ahhh..but perhaps it would be useful to 'advertise' on these forums - I know when I was looking for clubs that I found this type of promotion/discussion helpful - how about a new section Y&Y for exactly this purpose??
