Indeed. Seemed a risky strategy- they left announcing the team until just before the deadline. They trained as a nine-person squad in three boats with a lot of swapping. Wonder if we'll see other teams consider the same sort of idea, even with two-person boats, in the future? |

Well I suppose the advantage is that it gives you 3 really sharp boats completely focused and driven by that country. We had a similar setup in the finns I guess..but the look at Ladies 470's once pippa shifted across to Yngling, then we didn't have anyone that had the speed/skill to push bas/sas on the home turf... OTOH the teamwork can't develop to the 'ultra-level' that you would expect all these crews to be at - i.e. where they anticpate what the helm is goign to say next (or vice versa!!) |

If I remember correctly when the original rules were suggested there were no discards and then they were all given 1.

Yes 2 poor results sandwiching a good one! Only the one discard means the pressure is really on Paul to score low, I would say no higher than 6, in the rest of the series then nail the medal race if he is to be in with a shout of Gold. You've gotta wander about holding races in 2-3kts. We've all probaly sailed in those conditions and i think it's safe to say it becomes a lottery. Even when I've come off best I've never felt like I've won properly because I know it could just have easily been someone else collecting the puff. |

I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!

Sadly (as I sail inland where you get more of that stuff) I've never noticed it becoming enough of a lottery that I regularly beat the best sailors! |

I have got to the stage where I would rather go home and mow the lawns than sail in 2 -3 kts Just as golf is a good walk ruined, sailing in light winds is an irritation I can do without - especially at 16 stone Edited by Contender 541 |
