Don't know if you guys have seen this, but here is a link to someone who is trying to sail round the world on a boat he made himself out of bits from a hardware store!
http://www.esquire.com/the-side/blog/tincan He seems to have a bit of a death wish!! |

"Contrary to what some folks on sailing forums seem to think, I’m not insane or reckless. I’m trying something which is challenging, a true expedition, the most exciting thing I’ve ever done, and I’m happy with how the boat has turned out." From the homepage I agree with you though |

I think it's brilliant! He's living the dream of building your
own boat and sailing it round the world. I really hope he succeeds

I wish him all my luck but I reckon he will have trashed it by the end of his first leg... If IDEC couldn't last, how is that meant to? (IDECs rig started braking if you don't know!). I definitely wouldn't climb up that rig to fix it!

sailinganarchy.com have a picture of the escape hatch:
It's just a regular cheapy plastic deck hatch, bodged on to the side of the main hull partially underwater. When that gets ripped off he sinks - assuming the floats haven't already snapped off by then. Mike Edited by MikeBz |
