As a spin off from the discussions of sail number padding by some manufacturers to make their classes look bigger than they are I would also encourage people to check what they are getting is what is written on the sales brochure. Many manufacturers quote what they want and no-one ever checks as it is a manufactures one-design and so there is no measurement process. The biggest offender is weight - put your boat on the scales and see if you are getting what you paid for. If it's a lot more than the manufacture claims then take it back. Miss- Rick

No, just suggesting that you check what you are getting. When I have taken delivery of a new Fireball or 470 I have weighed it and checked that the boat is bang on max correctors, that's normal for those classes as the owner is aware of the figures as at major events the boats get checked. I have also weighted some manufactures one-designs and found them to be over 10kgs more than the advertised weights. Buyer beware. Rick |
