I guess in our sport these things just sometimes happen, although there are usually rules stating that there will be no racing in less than so much wind, i know the 420's do that sometimes.

I think it really depends on the status of the evnt, if we were sent out in the nats. to race in no wind i'd get really annoyed, but if it was just a regional traveller or a club race i wouldn't really be too bothered- but id still get frustrated!

I agree with the point Jons been making, its fine sailing in little wind but when that turns into no wind at all its no longer sailing but who can drift fastest. It seems bad race management that they run races in no wind, especially at important competitions.

Interestingly I asked the RYA why we raced in no wind and basically the answer was in some regattas you may have to race in no wind and hence the National Rankers should reflect this (in other words because other people have bad races we should have bad races to!)

We did a race at HISC recently when I did a 720 on the run, just twirling round on the tide. It's not my idea of racing, but the other option was shopping....

If you want to see some 'good' light air racing (under 5 knots) then check out Radical Radials: Sky Sports (UK, Ireland): Weds 15th December, 7pm, Sky Sports Xtra |
