you could have a slow course as we do now a spini course and a non spini course as for organising you might have to pay people to run it but that shouldnt be a problem with the entrance fees covering the cost

What about the same course that Carnac used this year - 2 ww/lw courses side by side alternating fleets down each ????? |

Personally i don't think it matter who goes on which course - two of the starts were mixed two and three sailed anyway and possibly couldn't have been/didn't want to be separated. I think the problem was just too many starts and too many boats on one course. The gybing and downwind angles of all the boats were changing dramatically particularly on Saturday depending on whether you were on a gust or not, so even if all boats were using kites I think there would still have been a problem of seeing everyone all the time unless there were fewer boats to start with. As for organisation, i don't think there were enough people spotting as it was, because there appear to have been problems with the result in all fleets. therefore there should be an increase in help needed next year whatever happens. Most other clubs cancel their normal Sunday club racing when they are hosting a big event, perhaps this could be considered to allow three courses on both days next year? |

i think to say that egos are the problem is a little childish, i would say its more to do with the speed and angles at which todays cats travel which is the major issue, put that together with a huge turnout of boats and you have problem.

Indeed, understand now. Did you always just do the 2 W/L legs, or did they give more laps and then shorten (and how given the CTTE boat is a fair distance from W2/L2 ????? This could work as you then are relying on the competitors to sail the correct number of laps, but given this, you cannot shorten the course as the OOD will not know how many laps people have done.
I've also found out that the OOD on the fast course spent 2 hours on Saturday night reviewing the finishing video working out who was where. The club have learned from this. |

Yes, just the 2 W/L legs. We did not shorten course at the worlds or carnac on this course. At the worlds they had a second c'tee boat to do the finishing by W2/L2. Not sure there is enough room at Grafham for this course. At the worlds in a blow the beats are sometimes 3 miles long! |

herein the problem. OOD needs to be able to put up 10 laps and then shorten as required. I'll talk to the guys at Grafham about all this and see what can be done. But we all need to remember that we need to keep to the rules and avoid collisions.
