Topic: Dinghy training holiday Posted: 24 Jul 06 at 5:19pm |
We are looking for a holiday destination for dinghy sailing. One of us has got a basic German dinghy training (maybe comparable to RYA level 2?) and would like to proceed to Laser standard and something like Laser 3000 while the other is sailing RS800 and just looking for some action on something bigger than the usual tiny lake :-) Minorca Sailing seems to be the logical answer, but what are the maybe somewhat less expensive alternatives? Thank you! PS: Does anyone have a link to the sailing centre at Mar Menor many are talking of at hand? |

Hi, have you considered Neilson. When I looked around they seemed to be the cheapest, however I have just had anumber of special offers sent to me from Sun Sail that are even cheaper, so it mught be worth registering on there web site for a brouchure (then they send you the offers). We are going to Porto Heli with Neilson in four weeks so if you are still interested after this time I will let you know how we got on, hopefully it will be good!!. Actually has anyone else been to Porto heli for sailing? if so please let me know if it is OK. Thanks

I do have to say that I think Minorca is a great place but then again i am pretty Biased. Neilson seems pretty good from what people have told me but I have always been told to steer clear of SunSail unless you have kids in which case it is good value.

Have a look at the Island Cruising Club in Salcombe, they have a L3000 and sail loads of different class in posisbly one of the best locations in the UK.

Mar Menore - Team Unlimited passed to Neilsons and they closed last year. Rob Andrews now has a cold job at Hamble for the RYA. We, on the other hand can offer sailing in the sun fo nearly 320 days a year at Arcos de la Frontera, Cadiz, Spain.. If you are looking for a warm weather training base during the winter or for that matter, any time of the year, try us. Just 20 minutes from Jerez Airport which is served by cheap flights from Ryanair at Stanstead.
AVA caters for both the intensive sailing courses as well as the holiday visitor looking for some family fun in the sun. The lake offers reliable, safe, warm and 'flat' water conditions, all year round, ideal for teaching and practice with easy access using a wide slipway and pontoons. Full changing and toilet facilities are on site as well as a fully equipped training room, gymnasium and lake side bar and café for essential lunchtime breaks. Canoeing, rowing and windsurfing are also available along with peddloes for non sailing partners. We have Picos Oppies, Cadets, a Stratos and a couple of RIBS. as well as a dayboat but we can move boats down if the wish is there. (23 hours drive from Dover) Give me a ring (Dick Sanders) if anything here is of interest. 0034 627 860 826 |

I don't know what current prices are at Minorca but if they are what I recall then if there are two of you you could try www.skiffasia.com - flights are more but everything else is good value and you get to play on some very nice boats in an ideal location...

Id like to add that the instructors are increably nice, and some of the most attractive people Ive met at any sailing school in the land. (I did spend best part of the last 3 year working there but I speak the truth ) |
