Does anyone know if Picos have a different handicap when raced with normal beach sails instead of battened sails????

I have a similar question regarding my Topper Topaz 'Race' - The RYA's website doesn't show a PY No. for a Topaz in their 2006 listing so where to I look to find out what I should be sailing under ? I have the same kind of issue because I have both the standard sail and the fully battened race sail plus the option of sailing either with a jib
(cue comment: "does it make any difference ? etc etc blah blah blah) The most obvious people to ask would be representatives from the class association...if only there was one. Topper's website does show PY Nos. but I've been told that they are out-of-date.........any ideas ? Many thanks in advance |

Does it make any difference...ha ha I'm so witty. I wonder if you'll think its so clever if they set a really slow one the thump you in every handicap race you sail in? And frankly given some of the people who have a habit of making those sort of comments and what they sail I'd have thought they would want to see fair handicap racing. Yes i'm in a bad mood this morning Edited by tack'ho |

Tack-ho, what are you on about ? Is it such a stupid question ? - I'm not trying to query the handicap, just trying to find out what it's supposed to be. I'm not very experienced at this sailing lark but I have noticed that on the race entry forms at my local club there is a box for the PY No......I'd just like to be able to put the correct one in the box. Topper's site shows 1255 for both the Uno and Uno+ and 1240 for the Race and Race+, however, last year, race officials at my club told me that the RYA's listing shows it as 1210 (that was last year and I'm not sure if that was for the Uno or Uno Race). I just wondered where I was supposed to find out, that's all ! |

Hi WebMuppet I think you'll find Tack-Ho is defending your position, because of the rather thoughtless and lemming like response the original question prompted. We have the same problem with Pico PY, and considering how many there are out there, one would have thought that there may be some somewhat more solid data. Anybody have any club PY's for the Pico? |

I'm pretty sure Y&Y's racing classes review had handicaps in it (sadly mine is not to hand) for both boats, which may be a little out of date, but would allow you to start the process of finding a good level of handicap from nearer than pure guesswork. The RYA's book of PY numbers has all the recorded numbers etc in that they don't publish on the website, and all clubs who send returns get a free copy, so your sailing sec may have some up to date info. |
