Tried to explain to a kitesurfer yesterday..
They don't get it either. Must be something to do with the human condition. Didn't even try to move on to wind shifts or how to tune his kite so the leech doesn't stall out So he carried on walking his kit back up the beach instead of understanding how you can get up wind more efficiently in an adverse current. |

It's not a sport that mixes well with others, but it looks cool. |

They all seem to have same mindset of jet skiers and fishermen, will never forget seeing a mother and 2 toddlers bowled over by one, they were only in a couple of inches of water, then they were roundly abused by him.

Why were the mother and toddlers on a kite surfing area, they're not allowed on inland water, restricted from nature reserves, usually concentrated at given access points, I think I'd have had a go at her, especially if she had no idea about the lee bow effect. Which is a bit like the offside rule and womens comrehension of that.

They were on Marazion beach opposite the big reef, people had to intervene, was a close call whether the police were called.
Mother and children both were familiar with Lee Bow effect, said they had read about it online |

Marazion is a known windsport beach, mothers and toddlers should know that. In fact they should have been hauled off the beach, taken to another place & educated. Tested about lee bow theory, & practise and thoroughly questioned about the offside rule, failure should involve a custodial term.
Having said that, Kitesurfers also need educating, but how can you call it 'lee bow' theory when a board doesn't have a 'bow' as such. They don't even understand sailing terms like 'lee' side, in fact this guy I was talking to didn't even know there was a tidal current taking him and his mates downwind. But he did know that somehow riding along the wave troughs carried him further upwind, if he could get the kite to allow him to sail close enough to the wind to squeeze into the troughs, he just didn't know why. He was probably utilising earth's rotational gyro effect or jet stream?
