Was surprised to see there is a transaction fee for the dinghy show. I understood that became illegal in January or have companies already found a loophole?

AIUI it was only made illegal to charge them for cards and not for cash and other forms of payment.

It's also one of the very few events/shows that does not have any concessionary rates,we have not booked in case of the severe weather changes so two pensioners and we have to pay £32.00.

Maybe they think anyone over 60 cannot sail

There are cheaper rates for RYA members and groups.

Seems to be that the only way you can pay is by card, and quite clearly states a transaction charge. Just a way of putting up price by 15 percent.

'Stealth' charges .... just like 'admininstration charges' and similar.  Obvious modern day b**locks ...

Not many are fooled ... and most never exactly trust 'you' thereafter.   Come along -  Grow a pair and hit us punters with unified charges.. we don't care how 'you' want to split the charges down and don't believe you anyway when you do indulge with this sort of rubbish..  Plain speaking for plain charges  .... Damn it - we can take it really !

I don't like that the RYA use a 3rd party for their events, including such things as instructor days. Too much information going to people who will then sell it on, plus those "admin" charges. And, if anything unusual comes up, like needing a free kid's ticket when setting a wrist band, you still have to go through the RYA anyway.

Luckily, I have a free ticket including lunch this year!

Over 60's is probably the biggest market for a sailing show! Can't offer them a discount otherwise the whole thing would be a loss! LOL

I suggest people start reading the small print and understand what they are being asked to agree to and opt in to.

Many of us have got into the habit of ticking boxes to opt out of stuff, but with GDPR you have to opt in, so ticking the boxes out of habit is a sure way of handing over your details to anyone who wants them!

Another way of looking at it would be to consider it a bulk discount.
