Yes several times at Hayling - did alright in one, came 4th overall in the freeride fleet out of 100+ entries. (Thanks to my mate Mark technique sessions and Graeme’s tuition on how to really ‘pump’ a windsurf rig)
I remain sceptical about the move to Rutland, but that’s just that Hayling is still the spiritual home of U.K. windsurfing IMHO. But given the RYA are now piggy backing and dinghy sailing tasters are being run, it definitely sounds a little more mainstream and ‘moving forward’ with inclusivity, which is good imho. Rutland is also a lovely venue - especially the Whitwell side most dinghy bods don’t see, so well worth a day or two out. |

I did think last year about talking him into making it a demo opportunity for classes and small boat builders, it wasn't that brilliant for windsurfing but SUP and paddle stuff seemed to work for them. Imagine being able to turn up there and try boats like H2's, D-Zeros, Aero's, Solutions, Farr's Supernovas, that new Lightning 368, new build Streakers/Solos OKs... I think even I might show up for that even though it's right at the centre of nosebleed country..

I'm an ex windsurfer these days but even whilst I was windsurfing the NWF never really tempted me.. but the idea above sounds like it would be a real winner (subject to the weather of course).

It would be great if there were a fleet of Aeros for Le Mans racing / slalom stuff (in relay teams maybe???) and a few Neos for beginners to try out a boat

you would think class associations would jump at the chance to showcase their boats.

Nothing on their website about there being dinghies there just windsurfing, SUP and kayaks.

If anyone wants Allan Cross’s contact details, please PM me.
I asked him about 3 years ago about a dinghy fleet and he wasn’t against a proposal, but I never took it forward due to personal circumstances. |
