Sorry but the question may not be as daft as it sounds, just how many times have we regretted buying the wrong gloves especially for winter dinghy sailing

So without breaking the bank what gloves have you found best

For winter gloves the balance is between warmth and grip, what problem do you have with the gloves you have tried so far?

I just bought some cheap Seagull winter gloves off eBay. They seem OK, if pretty basic.

In the "Winter clothing" thread Piglet recommended some hefty rubber gloves. I got them, and they seem a good compromise between keeping your hands dry and being able to still move your fingers.

I have some Gill three season gloves https://www.gillmarine.com/gb/three-seasons-gloves.html which I find pretty good (out of stock and probably discontinued now but there'll be something similar). Grip is good, they are very flexible and much warmer than summer gloves.

When I was windsurfing I tried everything from surgical gloves and Marigolds to expensive neoprene. Nothing worked TBH 'cos of the need to grip the boom constantly but the key is to keep wind chill off your hands and neoprene rather than open mesh backs are well worth the extra bulk. Dinghy sailing is slightly less problematical as the grep strength required is somewhat less relentless (and your hands aren't constantly at shoulder/head hight with the blood draining out.......).

When it gets really cold I do put surgical gloves on under the ones which will get wet, which helps a little.
