I watched a documentary about pumped water storage electricity generation, one of the earlier posters mentioned the main one somewhere in Scotland, only comes on line when Ad's and major sports events have half time etc, can provide max power to grid in miliseconds.
Not sure how this will help recharging millions of cars at the end of the working day ?

Until you realise that natural processes such as photosynthesis are remarkably efficient at turning atmospheric CO2 into an energy source. Most govts and energy companies are focussed on demand balancing along with super-grids to make renewables work in providing our energy. |

Once batteries get lighter, why can't we just have 2, one charging from our personal house solar panels during the day and one in the car being used?

Battery weights will have to fall considerably before changing them at home becomes practical for the average driver given that a current Tesla battery weighs over half a tonne. The other problem is that there are only very small improvements in efficiency left to be made, unlike the IC engine. Add to that the fact that petrol has an energy density of 44 megajoules per kilogram and a fully charged LiPo battery only around 2.5 megajoules per kilogram at best. I think the best solution in the medium term will prove to be the PHEV by making best use of both fuels/technologies

Using fossil fuels has given mankind one major benefit that cannot be overestimated, we have delayed the next ice age, reduce greenhouse gases, get a new ice age, total devastation.
