Reading through the Racing Rules and some of the topics in this forum, quickly shows just how complex the sailing rules have become.
Let's have a go at just 4, maybe 5 rules; Starboard boat has RoW Windward boat keeps clear Boats must avoid collisions if at all possible Rule 69, "unwanted behaviour" rule, or something similar Maybe an illegal propulsion rule of some sort, if that can't be covered by the "unwanted behaviour" rule? No mark-rounding room/zone rules - if you're the windward or port-tack boat at a mark, you keep clear No rules needed dealing with obstructions - that's covered by the "must avoid collisions" rule. All the start-line antics are covered by these rules. What do you think? *Ducks for cover* |
