I saw this on the BBC News. The 82 year old driver escaped unharmed but is believed to be a member of the sailing club.
The family living above in the flat escaped unharmed. |

The above report claims driver had three attempts at driving the car into the wall and then poured petrol over car and building and set some flares off! Edited by JimC - 22 Apr 14 at 3:54pm |

A real shame for the club they had just had a major refurb and extension done.

So in one report he is rescued from the vehicle without serious injury and in the other he gets out and starts the fire.
I smell a rat, or some dodgy journalism at the least.

If he had, indeed, crashed into the building at around 70mph as described in the report, the car would no longer be recognisably car-shaped, and there's no way he would have been scampering around with flares and tins of petrol!
As is so often the case with eye-witness accounts of traffic accidents, 70mph would seem to be more like 15-20mph!

Don't forget that the car is a Volvo ;) I agree that there is far to much of the car sticking out for it to be 70mph. Any thoughts on the reason why he would do something like that? I do feel sorry for both the club and the residents of the flat. |

Crikey. Looking at this guys history it certainly seems out of character if it was deliberate........He must have been in a desperately miserable place to resort to this. Thank goodness no one was hurt.
