Has anyone on here tried raceQs yet? http://raceqs.com
For those who have not seen it yet, you download an app on your smartphone, take the phone with you on the water and it uploads to your account automatically and creates a 3d interactive reply using google earth.. I tested it for the first time this weekend, in our club icicle series and am impressed by the 3d playback features etc. I have even tried to beta test the GeoVids software, which pulls your gopro videos into the replay as well, but still can't get it to work... obviously early days for the software. Well i assume from the radio silence that no one else has had a go yet.
After resolving some of the software bugs with the developers, i hooked it up with my GoPro footage from the race. Managed to do a video screen capture of the results and upload it to youtube - sorry its a bit jerky, my processor was having issues running GoogleEarth, raceQs, GeoVid plugin, GoPro footage and the video capturing software at the same time. This has loads of potential .. especially at capturing the Bart's Bash record attempt later in the year http://youtu.be/0nhI1lHzTdo |

Hi VeeBee200,
We have started using raceQs at Port Edgar Yacht Club in the last 3 weeks. The app is great and FREE ! We tried doing something similar oursleves about 18 months ago but this takes all the manual data handling work out of it and the race analysis app is good given the development is at such an early stage. The guys in San Francisco are also very helpful in resolving issues. We are looking forward to the tablet replay version (currently only plays on a mac or pc) so we can play through an apple tv onto the bar tv. Havent tried the live streaming yet either - all work in progress.

Hi Ian,
Ah, excellent - someone else is in the UK is using it! I recently wrote an article in our sailing clubs newsletter in hope that more people would adopt it, but the uptake is slow. I think people are afraid of taking their expensive smart phones out on the water. I have had a few issues with the software, and the development guys have been really helpful. Playing the GoPro video against the 3d animation is a bit jumpy - but i think thats just down to the speed of my laptop. I love the idea of playing it on the big screen of your club - i had not thought of that. It is our big annual dinghy regatta this weekend (the Langstone Harbour Race Weekend - www.langstonerace.co.uk) and it would be great to show it off to the sailors. Thanks for the inspiration! Rich |
