In what can only be described as a total lack of judgement at a recent AGM, members of H&SSC have voted me as their commodore for reasons I can only guess as either
a)My stunning good looks, wit, banter, extreme sailing skill, experience and general charismatic appeal which will look even more stunning in the new Commodore uniform I'm having designed based on South American Dictators I've admired in the past. b)Nobody else would do it. So, clearly I'm going to need help in seizing the opportunity this now affords to get some decent race start kit in the race box, I've seen these external light display systems, I think it might have been Starcross or somewhere similar, so my question, is there a turnkey system or is it something fashioned by individual clubs and without go looking, I assume there are prescriptions for light sequences in the rules. Oh and there's no need for any of you to salute or call me sir or anything, I'm going to try not to let my new status affect me (Other than the piping on deck, commodores parking place, free commodore alcohol at the club bar, rules that I'll be putting in place in due course.) Just when we wondered how we were going to entertain ourselves over the cold winter months, along comes a whole new comedy to keep us glued to the keyboard.

This can only be a good thing for sailing as a whole.
Loads of energy, gobsh*te and dictatorial attitude being brought into play. If Y&Y and the dinghy press are short of column inches over the next 12 months they know where to go. I am looking forward to the fall out immensely. I think perhaps Le Mans type starts from the top of the beach could be on the agenda. Ideal for Rupert's old Minisail and RS100 owners. It will reinvigorate the dinghy building and maintenance industry on its own. I suspect compliant club members will have to get into the habit of saluting the commodore, and the cunning ones will just get him pi**ed. Brave New World indeed. Hurrah !!! Richard Russell does a timing system to control lights, and hooter.
Add that to your budget. Just remember that as a flag officer you do 3 times as much work as people realise and get no thanks for most of it. |

genuinely congratulations.... I hope you find the club receptive to transformation.
Can I recommend your first action is to locally adjust handicaps Second action, submit your returns to the RYA Third action, arrange the FOM, with a military parade and a 21 Gun Salute when you cross the finish line.
