Absolutely agree Mark. I was considering both devices but got given the kindle as a gift. In general I can sideload .apk files or download then from third party app stores which works fine. Haven't felt the need to root it yet as I pretty much have all the apps I want or need.

Serious question from a tablet newbie Luddite.
I have a nexus 7 with the chrome browser. What is the advantage of an app over browsing the webpage with chrome? ......I don't understand these things

Generally an app can be launched from your tablet desktop in one click.
Going into your browser and typing "yachtsandyachting" just takes too long. Also apps are generally configured to scale to tablet or phone screens, so you don't have to zoom in and out to be able to click on the next page. |

Thanks Craig.
Yes, now you mention it I can see how it would look and work better on a phone. I have Y&Y bookmarked with a short cut on my home screen, so 1 click anyway.........I'll give the app a go though.

One of the key advantages of the App is that every time you open it with an active internet connection it'll check to see if there are any new stories and refresh if there are. If you don't have a connection you can still read the stories that have been downloaded. We're going to re-do the mobile site at www.yandy.co.uk so that it matches up in styling with the app as well - it's a far better layout for touch-screen devices. Keep any suggestions coming for development, be that app, website, mobile site or whatever. In the future with this 'internet of things' you'll probably be able to read the headlines on your fridge! |

App is now available in the Amazon store, for the Kindle Fire. Search for "Sailing News" to find it.

Mark Jardine - I think you are part of the Y&Y back in the day there was a magazine called Dinghy or something. In this digital age you could have Y&Y Dinghy website so proper sailers don’t need to sift through articles about people that think carrying a whole lot of heavy stuff is sailing.
