Brightlingsea Sailing Club’s Youth Regatta provides racing for cadets of all abilities and the 2017 edition will take place from August 2nd to 4th

Racing takes place in the sheltered waters of Brightlingsea Creek and the inner reaches of the Colne Estuary. We can sail at any state of the tide and the Club has safe and easy launching via its own ramp into Brightlingsea Creek.

Cadet Captain Graham Eeles leads the support and coaching team who are on hand throughout the regatta to brief the cadets prior to racing and support and coach them afloat. In addition to our regular volunteer support team, parents and families of those taking part are encouraged to get involved in what ever way they can. Brightlingsea Sailing Club is run by the members for the members and this old fashioned community can do attitude is just as important at our Youth Regatta as at any other time.

Alongside the racing there are a host of opportunities for fun on, in and around the water and watching the youngsters gain in confidence and make friends as the regatta progresses is one of the event’s great joys.

There’s also an active social programme with activities such as a beach BBQ and sports night, movie and popcorn night, try paddle boarding sessions, etc.

The Youth Regatta also acts as a training/feeder event for BSC’s famous Pyefleet Week Regatta which takes place the week following.

There’s plenty to keep friends and family entertained ashore, too, as the Club is open throughout the day. The racing takes place over the high tide period and parents and friends can watch the cadets racing right in front of the clubhouse.

Even when the kids aren’t racing there’s plenty to keep them entertained. There’s a sandy beach right outside the Club, walks along the River Colne and Brightlingsea Creek, playgrounds, a seawater paddling pool, Brightlingsea’s outdoor swimming pool (one of the few remaining outdoor lidos still in operation), and the ever-popular crabbing from Brightlingsea Hard or The Promenade at high tide. All are within a few minutes’ walk of the Club, so you can forget the car.

BSC Youth Regatta is organised and run by Brightlingsea Sailing Club members. The club operates an open door policy throughout the week and welcomes visiting sailors, their friends and families to our very special corner of Essex.
