The RRS:-
41. OUTSIDE HELP
A boat shall not receive help from any outside source, except
  1. help for a crew member who is ill, injured or in danger;
  2. after a collision, help from the crew of the other vessel to get clear;
  3. help in the form of information freely available to all boats;
This would seem to cover the situation...
  1. unsolicited information from a disinterested source, which may be another boat in the same race.

There's an extra condition for RRS 41 in match racing:
"(e) help to recover from the water and return on board a crew member, provided the return on board is at the approximate location of the recovery."

I must admit its not immediately clear to me whether this is permitting help that would otherwise not be permitted, or restricting allowed help to the approx location of the recovery.

I note also 48.2
48.2 No person on board shall intentionally leave, except when ill or
injured, or to help a person or vessel in danger, or to swim. A person
leaving the boat by accident or to swim shall be back in contact with
the boat before the crew resumes sailing the boat to the next mark.

I do think its kinda cute that the RRS specifically permits a crew to stop sailing and go for a swim mid race!

Legend has it that Uffa Fox, while his boat was anchored in a calm during a race went for a swim and the boat was disqualified.

Having sailed Lasers and Wayfarers in Saudi, there are times going for a swim is most welcome, even if the water temperature can be 30C +

Still sailing in circles
