The evening of Saturday, April 27th, marked a remarkable celebration at the Chase Sailing Club as they hosted their much-anticipated Prize Giving Evening. With every seat filled and a lively atmosphere, the club's members, families, and friends gathered to recognize outstanding achievements and revel in the community's shared love for sailing.
The ambiance was electric as sailors and enthusiasts mingled, sharing tales of memorable races and time on the water. The bar was bustling with laughter and cheers, adding to the festive atmosphere of the evening.
The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the grand presentation of trophies, a spectacle that left no doubt about the talent and dedication within the club. From prestigious cups for championship races to acknowledgments for newcomers, there was a trophy for every accomplishment, each symbolizing the passion and perseverance of its recipient.
As the awards were given, the applause echoed through the room, acknowledging the hard work and skill of the sailors. From seasoned veterans to promising newcomers, every member of the Chase Sailing Club contributed to the vibrant tapestry of achievements celebrated that evening.
The Icicle Series concluded with Mark Blackham securing 3rd place in his Blaze, followed by Rob String and Pete Tate claiming 2nd in the GP14, while Finn Watson clinched 1st in his Laser.
Transitioning to the Spring Series, Neil Davies and Michelle Evans claimed 3rd in the GP14, Gareth Hyland secured 2nd in his Blaze, and Rob Stringer and Pete Tate dominated with a 1st place finish in their GP14.
The Summer Series saw Rob and Pete securing 3rd in the GP14, Neil and Michelle taking 2nd in the same class, and Josh Hyland emerging victorious in the Phantom.
As the season shifted to colder climates, the Frostbite Series saw Russell Lutwyche and James Harris claiming 3rd in the Icon, Rob Stringer and Pete Tate securing 2nd in the GP14, and Neil Davies and Michelle Evans emerging as the winners.
Wednesday evening races featured Callum and Chris Anderson grabbing 3rd in the GP14, Josh Hyland securing 2nd in the Phantom, and Neil Davies and Michelle Evans once again claiming victory.
Friday evenings in 2023 saw Mike Rudd, Brian Westerly, and Gareth Hyland securing 3rd, 2nd, and 1st respectively in their respective boats
Individual events dotted the year's calendar, with Elsa Minton triumphing in the Stag Cup, Rob Stringer and Pete Tate claiming victory in the Presidents Trophy, and Finn Watson emerging victorious in the Commodores Cup.
Noteworthy individuals were also celebrated, with Neil Davies awarded Helm of the Year and Michelle Evans recognized as Crew of the Year. Linda Instone was honoured with Lady Helm, while Mike Rudd received the Norton Trophy. Trish Blackham was awarded the Endeavour Award, and the Hylands claimed the Family Cup. Rob Stringer was celebrated with the Codgers Cup, and Delyth Hopkins was named Junior of the Year.
Individual fleet awards were also distributed, with Richard Instone, Steve Turner, Elsa Minton, Neil Davies and Michelle Evans, Alison Hopkins, and Gareth Hyland taking top honours in their respective classes. Paul Lester In his Finn claimed victory in the Slow Fleet and Fast Fleet award saw Russ and James in their Icon. Finally, Lynette Turner was awarded the Charles Elliott Trophy for her significant contributions to the club throughout 2023.
Addressing the gathering, Commodore Dave Watkins reflected on the triumphs of the past year, declaring 2023 as a stellar chapter in the club's history. With pride, he recounted the victories on the water and the bonds forged ashore, emphasizing the sense of community that makes Chase Sailing Club a beacon for sailing enthusiasts.
